Kolkata: In a shocking incident, a young woman was given rape and murder threats by a stranger at a public bus stop in Lake Town in West Bengal last Tuesday. She filmed the entire episode of harassment and two days later, she shared the video on Facebook, following which Bidhannagar police registered a case and launched a manhunt to nab the accused.
The video shows the accused verbally abusing the woman and threatening to sexually assault her. He claimed that he is a resident of Kalighat and does not fear the police. The affected woman has alleged that a cop in uniform was present at the spot when the middle-aged stranger, who was visibly in an inebriated condition, was harassing her; however, he did not help her and left the spot.
Friend rushes to spot to help woman
She told the police that later she called up one of her friends who stayed nearby when the tormentor pulled out a knife and threatened to kill her. Her friend immediately rushed to the spot for helping her. The two then left the spot in a cab, according to a report by The Times of India.
A case has been registered against the accused at Lake Town police station. Efforts are on to nab him, police officials said, adding that they shared photos (video grabs) of him across Kolkata and Bidhannagar police stations.
In another incident, a 22-year-old woman from UP’s Mahoba was allegedly sexually assaulted by two railway employees at the Bhopal main station on Saturday. The survivor, in her complaint, stated that the accused gave a drink laced with sedatives and raped her.
The prime accused, identified as Rajesh Tiwari, in-charge of disaster management with Bhopal division, has been arrested and another employee has been detained.
