Kolkata News

KOLKATA: The minimum temperature on Wednesday climbed up to 19.9°C in the city, four notches above the normal mark. The maximum temperature was 27.4°C. The Met office said this was the highest minimum temperature this winter. But, with the arrival of the chill-bearing northwesterly, the mercury may dip from Thursday.
“The northwesterly has started arriving in the city. Hopefully, it will gain intensity by Thursday and will pull the mercury down. We can expect an immediate dip of around 2°C in the minimum temperature by Thursday and a further decline by Friday and Saturday,” said G K Das, director (weather), Regional Meteorological Centre, Kolkata.
The minimum may slide to around 17°C by Thursday and then to 16°C-15°C. The maximum temperature may hover around the normal mark of 27°C for now. The chill could be missing, but the nights will be pleasant, said weathermen.
The Met office has also predicted a gradual rise in temperature from Monday, indicating the end of winter. The city saw a cloud cover on Wednesday due to an outerflow of a depression that is present over Chennai, but will see no rain, said the Met office.
“The clouds are moving away from the city. We should see a smaller cloud cover from Thursday,” said Das. On February 6, 2022, the minimum temperature had dipped as low as 13.2°C.
