Centre releases Rs 250 crore school funds after Bengal letter – Times of India

Kolkata News

KOLKATA: The Centre has released Rs 250 crore to revamp the infrastructure of state-run schools across Bengal. The fund release is for a project taken up by the Centre and the state on a sharing basis to ramp up 2,000 schools that were set up before 1945. The Centre will fund 60% of the project, while the state will give the remaining 40%.
The move came after the state government wrote to the Centre highlighting the plight of these schools. The Centre has in the recent past released funds for Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), Gramin Sadak Yojana and other central projects ahead of rural polls in Bengal.
“We have got our due. We had written to the Centre seeking the money. The fund release is an acknowledgement of our better planning of infrastructure development. Let Bengal BJP leaders cry foul. We will keep up with our good work,” state education minister Bratya Basu said on Saturday.
Bengal BJP leader Dilip Ghosh said, “ The Centre is giving more money to Bengal than to other states. Yet, the state keeps grumbling for funds. We want the government to spend the funds properly and stop corruption.”
