With an eye towards the Lok Sabha polls in 2024, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National President J P Nadda arrived in Kolkata on Wednesday night, a day after the BJP national executive extended the term of Nadda till June 2024. The main aim of the visit is to strengthen the Lok Sabha Constituencies, where BJP got defeated in last Lok Sabha polls, and prepare the party ahead of the coming Panchayat polls.

A public rally will be held in Nadia district’s Bethuadahari on Thursday, which will be addressed by Nadda, coupled with organizational meetings in the district and the state leadership, sources told ET.

Nadda will visit ISKON temple today morning and also address a public rally in Bethuadahari district. All senior leadership will be present at the public rally.

“BJP National President J P Nadda and Union Home Minister Amit Shah are likely to visit Bengal every month and participate in similar programmes, including a public addressing rally, and will reach out to one or two Lok Sabha Constituencies every month, where the party got defeated in the last Lok Sabha polls,” a senior party leader told ET.

Meanwhile, in a public rally in Trinamool stronghold Sourth 24 Paraganas district’s Basanti, BJP state President Sukanta Majumdar said, “West Bengal’s situation is grave. You know better than us. Did anyone reach Didi for a solution to your problems? Minority youth have been fooled by the ruling party, saying they will be sent outside the country through CAA. This is completely false information.”

Majumdar attacked the ruling Trinamool Congress for changing the name of PM Awas Yojana and how people got deprived of the benefits of the scheme due to Trinamool’s corruption. “You have been deprived of the housing scheme offered by the PM. Names of the schemes are changed. Gram Sadak scheme has been renamed as “Bangla Sadak Yojana” and many more.”

Meanwhile, veteran actor-turned politician Mithun Chakraborty, who is also a national executive committee member in the party, has been roped in by the party to campaign for the party, ahead of the Panchayat polls. He said, while speaking at the rally, “If I am alive and we win in Panchayat polls, those who have kachha houses, I will help them to get “pucca” houses. For that you will not have to become BJP or have any political affiliations.”
