65-year-old Tapas Sandilya, in Kolkata’s Kaikhali, fulfilled his late wife’s wishes by installing her lifelike silicone statue at home. Sandilya lost her wife Indrani during the pandemic’s second wave. He spent 2.5 lakh rupees to make the statue, which is seated on a sofa at Indrani’s favourite spot at their VIP Road home. The retired central government employee’s love for his late wife draws curious neighbours and even occasional visitors from outside the locality. It took over six months by sculptor Subimal Das to complete the statue which weighs 30 kg.
