KOLKATA: A couple from Garia has been arrested by Golf Green police on Friday, for allegedly setting up a dating app and trapping young men through sextortion. The duo – Kuntal Dey (34) and Ratna Dey (32) – lured the victims to the latter’s residence. Ratna then filmed the women hired by her and the potential victims and demanded money from the latter through her husband.
“The accused committed the offence under the Information Technology Act. A case was registered at Golf Green PS pertaining to extortion, threat and criminal conspiracy along with section 66E of the IT Act,” said a deputy police commissioner.
Cops said a complainant from Aurobinda Nagar, Golf Green, claimed that he met a woman accompanied by Ratna through an app and had a consensual physical relationship with her. He said that Ratna allegedly filmed them with the help of hidden cameras. “Ratna threatened the complainant and said the footage would be circulated on social media. She extorted Rs 17,000 on the spot and continued threatening him,” said an investigating officer.Sources said that both accused extorted money this way from several people.
