Entire Millennium Park stretch to reopen by Jan – Times of India

Kolkata News

Kolkata: After reopening two parts of Millennium Park a few months ago, following a lull in the Covid infection rate, the Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA) is set to reopen the entire park by early next year.
According to a KMC official, the civic body has been conducting a cleanliness drive in the last stretch of the 1.5km Millennium Park with an eye on reopening the entire park for visitors by January. The 500m stretch extending from the shipping corporation office to Armenian Ghat couldn’t be opened due to poor maintenance.
KMDA has handed over the park’s maintenance to KMC. “The 500m stretch of the park has thick bushes and weeds. We have started cleaning up the park and hope to wrap up the job by the end of the month,” said a KMC official.
According to the official, the civic body will now need to engage contractual gardeners to meet maintenance needs of the entire park throughout the year. “Though we need to keep vigil on the entire stretch of Millennium Park — starting from Babughat till Armenian Ghat — the last stretch is the most important part as it is frequented by visitors in the afternoon due to presence of the hanging decks that offer a panoramic view of the Hooghly,” said a KMC parks department official.
