Kolkata: The CID on Saturday carried out the first arrest in a cow smuggling probe that was initiated two weeks ago.
The state agency nabbed one Md Jenarul Sk (42) of Raghunathganj under Jangipur subdivision in Murshidabad. Sources said Jenarul was a vital lineman who ran the cattle business around this area and Lalgola from 2015-19.
“Jenarul used to buy cattle at auctions and flaunted a lot of money. We are trying to ascertain his source of income,” said an officer.
CID sources said they had found crucial links between the cow smuggling racket and Kolkata, where some had opened trading offices. “Among the most wanted men, at least two have offices in central Kolkata,” claimed a source.
