Kolkata: Nine Jadavpur University engineering grads bag Rs 1-crore jobs – Times of India

KOLKATA: Jadavpur University (JU) has seen the best placement season in years with nine students from various engineering departments bagging overseas jobs with pay packages exceeding Rs 1 crore. All of them have bagged jobs overseas.
Debarshi Maitra, Kush Mishra from production engineering, Ritwik Raj, Rupayan Ghosh from information technology, Satyam Kumar, Shubham Kumar Mondal from computer science and engineering and Chiradeep Dey, Satyaki Das and Saikat Chakraborty from electronics and telecommunication engineering have got international offers.
The highest package this year- is a whopping Rs 1.4 crore from Google – went to Debarshi. This is the first time after the pandemic that students have got international offers from Edinburgh, Madrid, London, Dublin and Berlin with such high salaries. Debarshi will join work in September. “It has always been my dream job. I want to thank my family and teachers,” said Debarshi, who has also got a Rs 1.1 crore job offer from Amazon.
Fourth-year electronics and telecommunication engineering department student Chiradeep Dey has also bagged a job in Amazon with a remuneration of Rs 1.1 crore. He will join his workplace in Dublin in September.
The best package a student has received for a job in India is Lakshya Bengani, a fourth-year IT student who has received a Rs 65 lakh offer from Apple. He has been selected for a position in Hyderabad and will join in July. “It was unexpected to get a job with such a huge salary,” said Bengani. Aritra Samanta from computer science has also bagged an Apple job.
“The quality of placement across departments has been very good. Even core engineering sectors like mechanical, civil and chemical have got lucrative packages,” said Samita Bhattacharya, placement officer at JU. Vice-chancellor Suranjan Das said: “The pandemic was a testing time for students. It is brilliant news for them because they had to face many obstacles. I extend my good wishes to the teachers for preparing our students so well.”
Around 50 students have got a job with a salary of Rs 40 lakhs per annum. Many have got double and triple offers. Nearly a thousand applicants applied for jobs, among whom 84% people have succeeded in getting jobs. More than a hundred companies came for placement.
IIEST, Shibpur has had a good season as well. “The highest package is between Rs 40-Rs 45 lakhs whereas the average salary is Rs 10 lakhs. It has been a good placement year,” said an IIEST official.
