Another fake call centre busted in Kolkata’s Salt Lake – Times of India

KOLKATA: Continuing with the sustained raids against fake call centres, prodded by fresh exposure of scamming call centres in Kolkata by a US-based Youtuber earlier this month, Bidhannagar cops sealed another call centre in Sector V and arrested six of its officials on Friday.
Officers of Bidhannagar Police raided a 10th-floor office at Godrej Genesis Building at Sector V in Salt Lake and found hundreds of young men and women calling people in UK, USA, France and Germany. A deeper quest revealed the callers were scamming the foreigners as well as India in the pretext of giving tech support, website selling and solving their problems regarding internet speed.
The callers were posing as officials of popular software and mobile app companies, an officer of the Bidhannagar commissionerate said.
Cops charged them under IPC sections dealing with cheating, forgery, criminal conspiracy and sections under the Indian Telegraph Act 1985.
Cops arrested Rabi Kr Prasad (30), Kalib Tanvir (30), Rayce Fernandez (33), Debojyoti Das (33), Faizal Nasim (34) and Md Akram (34), all senior officials at the dud call centre.
The arrest comes on the backdrop of a stunning exposure by US based Youtuber Mark Rober in his 26-minute video documenting and exposing three scam call centres in Sector V and New Town on May 9. Bidhannagar Police raided one of them – MET Technologies on May 11, shut it down and arrested 15 senior officials involved in duping people across the world.
