Kolkata News

A nor’wester locally called Kalbaisakhi hit parts of West Bengal, including Kolkata disrupting flight operations. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said the highest wind speed recorded was 90 kilometres per hour. The nor’wester also caused the death of one and injured two more after a tree fell on them.

Flight operations were disrupted at Kolkata’s Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose international airport on Saturday afternoon due to the nor’wester and heavy rainfall.

The nor’wester lasted for about half an hour with gusty winds blowing at around 50 to 60 kilometres per hour with rainfall. The rainfall did not cause much disruption to traffic.

According to the Chief Public Relation Officer (CPRO), metro services were affected after a tree fell on the UP line between Mahanayak Uttam Kumar and Netaji. Normal services resumed afterwards.
