NCC cadets’ sailing expedition from Farakka to Kolkata – Times of India

KOLKATA: Under the aegis of West Bengal and Sikkim Directorate, 60 naval cadets comprising 35 boy and 25 girl cadets of 1 and 2 Bengal Naval Units will be undertaking a sailing expedition on the Hooghly river from Farakka to Kolkata covering a distance of 410 km, a press release said on Wednesday.
The curtain raiser of the event was conducted at NCC Club House, Maidan area, Kolkata on Wednesday morning. At the event, Maj Gen Uday Shankar Sengupta, ADG West Bengal and Sikkim Directorate interacted and motivated the cadets to undertake the event in the true spirit of adventure.
The event will be flagged off from NTPC Farakka on Sunday morning from NTPC Ghat, in presence of other local dignitaries. The Closing Ceremony on 9 June.
The team will undertake various social awareness campaigns enroute like Namami Gange, Swach Bharat Abhiyan, tree plantation drive, environment protection, Beti Bachao Beti Padao (Save the Girl Child) and digital awareness, the press release said.
During the expedition, cadets will also be imparted naval oriented training such as pulling, sailing, boat handling, river navigation, towing and visual and R/T communication. The opportunity is also utilized to introduce the cadets to the rich cultural heritage by conducting visits to the places of historical importance. All efforts will be made to achieve maximum benefits for the cadets from this expedition
