Kolkata: New Town has got another community centre building in Action Area II for citizens’ interaction and community gathering.
Set up by New Town Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA), Community Centre II, built up on over 29,000 sq ft of area, is located on Street No. 651 near Akansha More in Action Area II B. Such a centre has earlier been inaugurated at Action Area I.
The community centre was inaugurated by state urban development and municipal affairs minister Firhad Hakim on Tuesday evening. Raharhat New Town MLA Tapas Chatterjee and NKDA chairman Debashis Sen along with other senior officials were also present.
Like Community Centre I in Action Area I that was inaugurated close to Biswa Bangla gate in November last year, Community Centre II also has two banquet halls with two rooms each on the first and second floor, a large rooftop space, coffee shop, open air theatre, a sprawling lawn and exhibition rooms. The facility will be rented out for social purposes and occasions, community gathering and family functions.
Bookings to take rent of the banquet halls, terrace or the lawns having different tariff rates have already started. Residents said these community centres helped organize events.
