BJP worker’s death: Calcutta HC asks hospital to conduct autopsy under video surveillance – India Today

Kolkata News

Calcutta High Court on Friday asked Kolkata’s Command Hospital to conduct BJP worker Arjun Chourasiya’s autopsy under video surveillance. Arjun Chourasiya was found hanging from the ceiling of an abandoned building in North Kolkata’s Kashipur area on May 6. He was slated to lead a bike rally to welcome Amit Shah.

Priyanka Tibrewal, BJP leader and lawyer appearing for Chourasiya’s family had moved the Calcutta High court asking to put a stay on the state-run autopsy. Priyanka Tibrewal asked for an investigation to be conducted by an independent enquiry as they don’t have faith in the Bengal police.

She also asked for the post mortem to be conducted by the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL). Tibrewal gave an alternative option of the post mortem and said it could also be conducted by the Centre-run Command Hospital in Kolkata.

The court asked the state authorities to ensure the security of the deceased’s family. The entire post mortem will happen under the supervision of the District Magistrate of South 24 Parganas.
