KOLKATA: Members of two local clubs allegedly clashed in the Phoolbagan area, leadingto attack on a motorist returning home late on Friday evening. The clash was a fallout of a long-time rivalry where both groups had promoting interests.
Also, there were reports of vandalism from two commercial establishments in the CIT Road area. Cops, though, are yet to receive any complaint.
However, cops are yet to initiate a probe or detain people for questioning.
According to cops, the two groups clashed around 9 pm on Friday when members of one group were chatting and the other group suddenly attack them.
“I saw a woman who was driving her car was stopped, the car was hit with a rod. I also saw some people entering two commercial addresses. But, I do not know what transpired inside,” said a local tea seller who refused to be named.
Most local residents whom TOI approached on Saturday morning claimed they won’t be able to speak. Though sources claimed that at least two persons were injured in the incident and had to be hospitalized. “We have not yet received any report of vandalism. If we receive complaints, appropriate action will be taken,” said DC (ESD) Priyabrata Roy.
Locals claimed that stones chips and glass bottles were hurled during the clash.
Police said they will go through CCTV footage. “We have posted a picket in the area,” said an officer at Lalbazar. Phoolbagan has witnessed a few syndicate related clashes since 2018.
