Max & min temps a notch above normal – Times of India

Kolkata News

Kolkata: With the wind from the Bay of Bengal injecting moisture into land, the mercury shot up on Wednesday — both the maximum temperature, at 28.5°C, and the minimum, at 17.4°C, were a notch above normal. Kolkata and adjoining areas are likely to get light rain from Thursday evening, said weathermen.
The moisture incursion has pushed up the temperature, and covered the city in fog and mist in the morning. Met officials expect similar fog on Thursday morning, but it will not be dense enough to cause visibility problems.
“We can expect spells of light rain from Thursday evening. On Friday, too, Kolkata will get light-to-moderate rain while a few districts will get heavier showers,” said a source at the Met office.
An approaching western disturbance has blocked the path of the chill-bearing northwesterly wind. This weather system is likely to reach the eastern region by Thursday, triggering thundershowers. While the day temperature will dip slightly by Thursday, the nights will get warmer when the mercury will remain around 18°C.
According to the Met office, the sky will be clear of rain clouds by Saraswati Puja on Saturday. But there may be fog or mist in the morning.
