KOLKATA: The government has decided to step up vigilance at several singing bars in central Kolkata and bars and eateries across the city in the run up to the New Year weekend so that Covid-19 guidelines are not violated.
Some of the local police stations are also expected to get in touch with bars and eateries in their areas and hold meetings over safety guidelines.
The government has lifted night curfew till the end of the year and these outlets have been allowed to operate till 3 am for a fee.
“Several places including singing bars, eateries, pubs and nightclubs were crowded on the Christmas weekend. We have not filed any complaint but we are going to step up vigilance in some of these outlets,” said a senior officer of the central division.
