KOLKATA: Work for dismantling Vivekananda Road or Posta flyover has got stuck mid-way with the owner of a multi-storied building located near Girish Park has moved Calcutta high court, stating that the balcony of the building should not be affected or damaged in any way during the pulling down of the structure. A hearing in the case is scheduled on Tuesday, Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA) officials said.
KMDA was supposed to pull down the piers located adjacent to the building.
KMDA had started the second phase of work for dismantling Posta flyover on the most critical stretch from Girish Park to Ganesh Talkies. Officials said that a good portion of the work has already been completed in this phase and only the flyover girders stretching on three piers towards the Girish Park-end are to be pulled down.
“There are three piers adjacent to the said building which would take about another fortnight to be pulled down. For this, the portion of a building’s balcony could not be avoided and will be affected to some extent. It has been assured that KMDA will take up the required compensatory work to repair any damage that may occur to any building during work. But we are unable to take up work to dismantle that particular portion of the flyover adjacent to the said building as there is a court case going on,” said a KMDA official.
Officials said that they can’t even take up the third phase dismantling work as the equipment and machinery are placed at the spot located on the stretch from Ganesh Talkies to Girish Park and that it would not be possible to shift the equipment before completing work on the stretch. He said that traffic diversions are also in place for the second phase work.
