Calcutta HC asks CBI, SIT to file fresh reports in West Bengal post-poll violence case – India Today

The Calcutta High Court directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the court-monitored Special Investigation Team (SIT) to file fresh investigation reports in the West Bengal post-poll violence case.

Earlier, the CBI and SIT team had submitted status reports before a division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Rajesh Bindal and Justice Rajarshi Bharadwaj in the ongoing post-poll violence investigation. Following this, the next date of hearing in the matter was listed for November 8.

On Monday, the high court Bench comprising newly appointed Chief Justice Prakash Shrivastava asked the SIT to submit the fresh reports by December 16.

The Court observed that a number of cases are under investigation and the SIT team is taking further steps in monitoring. The high court added that a further status report has to be filed by both CBI and SIT team showing the progress in the probe.

Meanwhile, advocate Priyanka Tibrewal appearing for the petitioners informed the court that many people had been displaced from their homes in Barrackpore due to the post-poll violence. She claimed that the displaced persons could not return to their homes.

In response, the Court asked Priyanka Tibrewal to provide a list of names of those who cannot return to their homes, adding that the same shall be shared with the Advocate General of West Bengal as well.

The next hearing in the case is slated to take place on December 23.
