Happy to see Kolkata’s love for sports: Neeraj Chopra – Times of India

Kolkata News
Neeraj Chopra recently confessed his love for gol gappas, immensely popular as phuchka in this part of the country, and finally got to taste it right here in Kolkata when he visited the city on Wednesday for an event. When asked how it feels to be in Kolkata, Neeraj told us, “The last time I came here was in 2015 for a tournament. Though short, it was an enjoyable trip and I was very happy to see Kolkata’s love for sports.”
‘I love Bengali food, especially sweets’
On his first trip to the City of Joy after becoming an Olympic gold medallist, the champion javelin thrower indulged in a traditional Bengali spread apart from his favourite street food and fish fry. For lunch, the Golden Boy was spoilt for choice with luchi, cholar dal, chingri maachh bhapa, bhetki maachher paturi and a host of other Bengali delicacies on the menu. “I really liked Bengali food, especially the sweets and desserts like mishti doi and gurer ice cream,” said Neeraj, who even got some Bengali sweets packed for his family before leaving Kolkata.

‘Success has no shortcuts’
Sharing his advice for the youngsters who look up to the second-ever Indian to win an individual gold in the Olympics, Neeraj said, “My only message to the younger generation is to work hard and stay patient. Good things will happen if you sincerely follow this. There are no shortcuts to success and it is important to surround yourself with the right coaches, mentors and team – who are able to help you along the way.”
‘Looking forward to Durga Puja in Kolkata’
Though Neeraj is not sure if he can be a part of the Durga Puja celebrations in Kolkata next month, he does wish to experience it soon. “My schedule for the next month is uncertain. I would like to visit Kolkata for Puja, but I’m not sure if I will be able to make it. I have heard a lot about Kolkata’s Durga Puja and am looking forward to visiting the city during that time in the near future,” said Neeraj.
