KOLKATA: By Durga Puja, several key stretches of south Kolkata will be free of cable mess. Cable operators, multi-system operators and internet service providers will take up a cleanup drive along two stretches — between Exide crossing and Hazra crossing along Ashutosh Mukherjee Road and between Purna Cinema and Lansdowne Market along Ramesh Mitra Road. The two stretches together comprise around 3km.
“We will take up work along both stretches shortly and complete it by Durga Puja. We are about to complete another kilometre-long stretch between Exide crossing and Minto Park along AJC Bose Road,” said Tapash Das, joint convener of All Bengal Cable TV & Broadband Operators United Forum.
The optic fibre cables and coaxial cables will be dressed along the two pavements of Ashutosh Mukherjee Road like AJC Bose Road. The cables will be bunched along one pavement of Ramesh Mitra Road. In Kasba, the cables were bunched together to run along lamp posts in the middle of the road.
The pilot project of shifting the cables underground at Harish Mukherjee Road will also be completed before Pujas. “The progress of the work was hampered by the recent heavy rains. But we hope to resume as soon as there is a dry spell,” Das said.
Cables have already been dressed and organised along Belvedere Road, Alipore Road, Judges Court Road, Baker Road and Parkside Road.
