Two more people have been arrested in connection with the alleged murder of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Abhijit Sarkar during the post-poll violence in Kolkata. So far, seven people have been arrested in connection with the case.

“Two more FIR named accused persons have been arrested. With these, total seven out of eight people named in the FIR have been arrested,” an official said.

The two accused, identified as Sanjay Dey (26) and Avijit Dey (25), both residents of Narkeldanga, were arrested from their relative’s house in Chandannagar city of Hooghly district.

Both of them will be produced before a lower district court on Saturday.

On July 2, the Calcutta High Court had ordered a second autopsy of Abhijit Sarkar after his brother Biswajit Sarkar urged the court for a DNA test of the deceased and informed the court that his brother’s body had been damaged by maggots in the morgue.

The court asked the report to be submitted in a week.

Meanwhile, the NHRC submitted the final report of the post-poll violence in five sealed boxes before the five-judge bench of the high court.
