Kolkata: Calcutta High Court admitted three election-related petitions on Friday, days after Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee urged court-monitored recounting of votes in Nandigram. These took the total count of poll petitions to 15.
The petitioners this time are two BJP candidates and one from Trinamool.
The BJP’s Maniktala candidate Kalyan Choubey moved court challenging the victory of Trinamool’s Sadhan Pandey. The HC found Choubey’s petition in order and will hear the matter on August 6. Baishnabnagar candidate of BJP Swadhin Sarkar also contested the poll results in which Trinamool’s Chandana Sarkar was declared the winner. The matter will be heard on August 20.
Trinamool’s Bongaon Dakshin candidate Alorani Sarkar moved court against BJP winner Swapan Majumdar. Sarkar, in her petition, complained that Majumdar furnished “false facts” in the affidavit during nomination. The Trinamool candidate also alleged that Majumdar used the CAPF to “influence voters” on the day of the elections. The court will hear the matter on July 30.
