Kolkata: Housemaid drugs employers by lacing tea with sleeping pills, flees with cash, jewellery – India Today

A domestic helper looted cash and other valuables from her employers’ home in West Bengal after lacing their tea with sleeping pills. The incident took place in the Khardaha area of North 24 Parganas district near Kolkata on Saturday.

The owner of the home is a police officer who works at Bankshal Court in Kolkata. He lodged a complaint at the police station on Saturday alleging that the maid who had been working at his home for a long time, drugged the family and fled with cash and valuables.

The owner’s wife, Rupa Dey, alleged that the maid, identified as Piu, served them tea in the morning. “After drinking the tea, both of us fell asleep. We woke up after 2 pm and found out that my cell phone was missing. We then checked her room. Her luggage was gone,” said Dey.

“Cash worth Rs 15,000, along with our expensive clothes kept inside the cupboard, were also missing,” she added.

Dey told the police, “After she served us the tea, we lost consciousness. At noon, when my husband returned, we informed him about the incident.”

The family claimed that the maid was a resident of East Midnapore and had tried to get her hands on photocopies of voter ID, Aadhaar and PAN card of everyone in the house the night before the theft .
