The Calcutta High Court on Wednesday accepted the petition to file affidavit by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, State Law Minister Moloy Ghatak and the state government, who had sought acceptance of their affidavits in the Narada Scam case.

The trio will file their affidavits in the case at the cost of Rs 5,000 each. The affidavits is in connection to the law-and-order situation outside CBI office on May 17, the day four political leaders, including two TMC ministers, were arrested.

A five-Judge Bench comprising of Acting Chief Justice Rajesh Bindal, Justices IP Mukherjee, Harish Tandon, Soumen Sen and Arijit Banerjee has allowed the petition, subject to payment of Rs. 5,000 by each of the applicants. Meanwhile, the CBI has been granted 10 days’ time to file its reply in opposition.

Today’s development comes after the Supreme Court had set aside Calcutta High Court’s order on June 9 and refused to take on record their affidavit. The Top Court had directed Banerjee to file an application before the High Court.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee moved the apex court on June 22 in connection with the Narada sting case after the Calcutta High Court denied her permission to file an affidavit in the case.

It can be recalled, Banerjee and Ghotok were made a party to the case, where four former TMC ministers were arrested by CBI, and she had reached the CBI office. Mamata Banerjee’s in her petition before the Supreme Court mentioned that there was an attempt to mar the reputation of TMC senior ministers and her own reputation.

Supreme Court Justice Aniruddha Bose recused from hearing the petition filed by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and state Law Minister Moloy Ghatak.

Four political leaders, including two TMC ministers, were arrested by CBI following which Mamata Banerjee sat for hours inside the CBI office, demanding their release.

The next date for hearing is on July 15.
