A human skeleton was recovered from the roof of an abandoned building owned by Kolkata Port Trust in the Strand Road area on Tuesday afternoon, police said.

The Kolkata Port Trust had given the property to a private firm on rent for the construction of a warehouse.

Some workers were cleaning up at the spot when they discovered the skeleton.

The North Port Police station was informed soon after, following which the homicide squad of the Kolkata Police was called in. Forensic samples have been collected and investigations have begun.

According to sources, police are verifying the missing person complaints in the vicinity. This is the fourth skeleton to be discovered in Kolkata in the month of June.

About 15 days ago, a skeleton was found in a pond in South Kolkata’s Bansdroni area. Police later discovered that a man who lived close by had fallen into the pond in an inebriated state and hence his family members could not trace him thereafter.

In Bhawanipore area, another skeleton was found in an abandoned shop on June 10.
