KOLKATA: After oxygen on wheels, it is now time for vaccination on wheels. Kolkata Municipal Corporation is all set to introduce a mobile Covid vaccination centre (CVC) to reach out to citizens, especially traders and employees who have been unable to take out time to get the jab at KMC clinics.
The KMC has tied up with the state transport department for converting air-conditioned buses into mobile CVCs. The KMC board of administrators (BoA) chairman Firhad Hakim, who is also the state transport minister, on Tuesday said the KMC will send such a bus to the Posta area in Burrabazar.
Later, the fleet of buses will drive down to other market areas for vaccination of traders and their employees. A KMC health department official said the civic body’s vaccinators and other paramedical staffers will be able to arrange for Covid vaccines for 10 recipients at a time.
Growing vaccination demands from a section of traders had prompted KMC to tie up with the transport department for buses to reach out to traders at major markets.
“Our employees will be present for the on the spot registration. Then our vaccinators will take over,” Hakim said. The service will also be extended to other major markets such as Ultadanga, Maniktala, College Street, New Market, Gariahat Market, Kidderpore market, Behala market and Baghajatin market among others.
