KOLKATA: The Kolkata Police enforcement branch and the Bidhannagar Police worked together to bust a gang that was illegally arranging oxygen at a premium.
The police have arrested one person — named Tapas Haldar (40), a resident of Habra — for being involved with the gang.
“We have recovered three 10 litre B-type cylinders from Gouranganagar in New Town in this regard. Two of these were found to be filled and the other was empty. The total number of arrests in this connection has now gone up to almost a dozen ever since the crackdown began from April 25. About five others have been arrested for selling Remdesivir at astronomical prices,” said EB sources.
EB officers said the raids started in this specific case after receiving complaints that a few private ambulance drivers were taking out oxygen cylinders from ambulances and renting them at a high price. A leading actress from Tollywood too had reported to the police, citing how various WhatsApp groups were being penetrated by cheats promising oxygen at very high rates.
