Dog shows postponed till November in Kolkata – Times of India

Kolkata News

Due to the ongoing pandemic, there won’t be any dog show in Kolkata this year. The Kennel Club members informed that the government has not given a go-ahead to hold shows and no one is ready to take any risk. So, the next dog show will be organised after November 2021. Naturally, the dog lovers and regular participants are not very happy about the development.
Every year, Kolkata hosts three major dog shows, including the show at Calcutta Kennel Club (CKC). Not only from Bengal, but pet parents from all across the country and several parts of the world participate in these shows. As the pandemic has hit hard on the transport system in the country, the majority of the participants from other parts of the country and the world will not be able to reach Kolkata. “Besides, the shows attract thousands of people and that is not something we need,” said S Raman, the president of Calcutta Kennel Club. Besides, the CKC show takes place in Maidan and this year the club is having some trouble securing permission from the Army to hold the event.
The news has however disappointed the dog lovers and pet parents in Kolkata. “Everything is open. The kind of crowd we see every day in markets and metro rails are nothing compared to the crowd at dog shows. Then why not hold it now,” asked Shubham Roy, a pet parent.
