Kolkata: ATM emptied of Rs 2.3 lakh – Times of India

Kolkata News

KOLKATA: The management of a public-sector bank lodged a police complaint, stating an ATM at Shakuntala Park, Behala, had been emptied, with Rs 2.3 lakh being withdrawn through multiple transactions in one night. Cops from the Parnasree PS claimed the withdrawals did not reflect on the software and bank officials did not come to know of it until the ATM ran out of cash. The incident took place on the night between January 3 and 4.
“The bank has so far not mentioned any link or software failure,” said an officer. A team from the anti-fraud section is likely to help the Parnasree police and the bank’s internal security in the probe. A case of cheating has been registered following a complaint by Gurvjit Singh, senior manager of the branch on Ho-Chi-Minh Sarani (Biren Roy Road West). “We will summon those who were in charge of cash refill. We will also probe the technical angles,” said a senior police officer.
