Kolkata: A teenaged girl was allegedly stalked and gang-raped by four youths in the New Town area of Kolkata, the police said on Saturday. The girl was gang-raped at an ill-lit area of New Town by the accused.
The incident took place at around 9.30 pm on Friday night, soon after the girl stepped out of home for her evening walk. One of the accused was arrested while the others are still at large.
Teen accompanied by friend
The teenager left her home to go on an evening walk with a friend on the day of the incident. Meanwhile, the accused started stalking the girl and following her. Around 2 kilometres away from the spot, the accused allegedly thrashed the girl’s friend.
Following this, the accused took turns to rape the girl. At around 10.30 pm, the police patrol team heard the cries of the teenager and rushed to her rescue. The team found the girl writhing in pain in the bushes and rescued her.
All four accused nabbed
One of the accused, who was still in the area was arrested by the police, The Times of India reported. During interrogation, the accused shared the whereabouts of the other accused with the police. They were booked under section 376D (gang-rape), 342 (wrongful confinement) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
After learning about the accused, the police formed multiple teams to locate them and arrested them from three different locations. The girl agreed to attend the identification parade of the accused before the magistrate.
