Kolkata: In a shocking incident reported from West Bengal capital Kolkata, an app-based biker allegedly harassed a woman during her journey from Alipore to a restaurant in Garfa area. The incident took place on Sunday night.
During the ride, the biker allegedly continued to ask her obscene questions and took a longer route through alleys instead of taking the main road to reach the destination. The accused has been identified as 39-year-old Aslam Hossain.
However, the woman’s ordeal did not stop with the 26-minute ride. The biker again stalked the girl, who completed her higher studies this year, after she completed her journey, according to a report in Times of India.
The accused also allegedly insisted the girl go out on a date with him. He again started calling her the next day with four different numbers.
After the incident, the girl approached Kolkata Police on its Facebook page and complained to the customer care of the app-based bike taxi company ‘Rapido’ on Sunday.
The next day, Gafra police contacted the woman and a team was sent to her residence to file a complaint. Later, police arrested the accused, a resident of Dhalipara, from Haridevpur on Tuesday night.
“The address of the accused registered with the company complies with his address. But he was not living there anymore and the company had clue about it. We had to use the surveillance tools to trace and arrest him,” the report quoted a police officer as saying.
The woman later identified the accused at the police station. The app-based company called the woman after she filed the complaint and agreed that there was a major diversion on the journey route.
The company said they have deactivated the accused and blocked him from the platform. The bike taxi company has assured the police of all cooperation to ensure proper legal action in the case.
