KOLKATA: The Calcutta High Court on Tuesday asked Md Enamul Haque, who was arrested by CBI in a cattle smuggling case, to be produced at a special court in Asansol within a week after he tests Covid negative. Haque was due to appear before the Asansol court by November 9, but had to be quarantined at his Park Circus home after he tested Covid positive. Haque was tested again at the Beliaghata ID hospital on Tuesday in the presence of CBI officers.
Justice Shampa Sarkar in her four-page order said if the result is positive again, he will be tested after ten days. The HC said, “The CBI authorities shall be entitled to monitor and be present during such tests.” The HC also said that CBI officers can make daily visits to Haque’s residence to ensure that he does not leave the premises during the quarantine period.
Haque was arrested by CBI on November 6 in New Delhi for his alleged involvement in a cattle smuggling racket along the India-Bangladesh border. On November 18, CBI had also arrested a BSF commandant in the case. Haque then moved the HC seeking to quash the FIR, saying the CBI charges were “mala fide” and “motivated”.
