FIR over Covid body release in Kolkata – Times of India

Kolkata News

KOLKATA: Confusion over body disposal procedures led the kin of a deceased Covid patient to lodge a complaint against a private hospital in Salt Lake with Bidhannagar south police station. Only then was the body handed over to them more than 24 hours after the patient’s death. Thereafter, they took the body to Dhapa for cremation on Wednesday evening.
“My brother was declared dead by the hospital around 4pm on Tuesday following which we paid Rs 5 lakh as treatment cost, including Rs 6,000 as mortuary charge and Rs 5,000 as hearse charge. But the hearse that arrived tried to carry multiple bodies to a crematorium in Garden Reach. We objected, pointing to the September 16 Calcutta High Court order that ruled that the families of Covid victims be allowed to perform last rites,” said the patient’s brother.
