Calcutta HC quashes FIR against Babul – Times of India

Kolkata News

Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court on Wednesday stated that due to procedural defects, it could not proceed further with the FIR and chargesheet filed against Union minister Babul Supriyo for allegedly making foul comments against Trinamool MP Mahua Moitra during a television debate in January 2017.
Justice Bibek Chaudhuri said the FIR did not make out a case against the accused.
The court said the FIR did not disclose any cognisable offence under IPC Section 509 and therefore the chargesheet was liable to be quashed.
It might be mentioned that Babul had said to the court that the comment made by him during the TV show was a slip of the tongue and it was not intended to attack Moitra personally.
The court, however, granted Moitra the liberty to take any action according to law against Babul.
