KOLKATA: Two men were arrested on Wednesday for allegedly molesting a class XII girl returning home from a private tuition at Chhainabhi in Salt Lake and severely beating up her brother when he tried to protest last Sunday.
The woman alleged the incident had happened around 6.30pm when the two men had allegedly teased her and tugged at her dupatta. “I was returning from the tutorial with my brother when the two men were constantly teasing me and were making obscene remarks. When my brother protested, they began assaulting him. They even touched me inappropriately and removed my dupatta. I began running out of fear while calling my father for help. The men chased us for around a kilometre before retreating,” the woman said.
The woman added while running she had screamed and even called for help but none came forward. “The incident even occurred near the house of a local councillor. I was shocked and terrified at the incident and needed a day’s time to get my mind in place. I lodged the complaint on Tuesday after consulting my parents and the local councillor,” said the woman, a resident of Bantala under Kolkata Leather Complex police station.
Officers of Bidhannagar south police station, probing into the case said the woman couldn’t name the accused persons in her complaint but based on the description, cops found out their identities as Toton Sardar(28) and Paresh Sardar(34) and even found their mobile phone numbers from local sources. “One of them was tracked using the cell phone tower location and he gave us the whereabouts of the second accused person as we arrested the two men within 12 hours,” said the officer. They were produced before a Salt Lake court and sent to police custody on Wednesday.
