KOLKATA: In an attempt to prevent infection because of lack of proper disposal of Covid waste, the Kolkata Municipal Corporation has decided to install yellow waste bins across the city, Firhad Hakim, the chairman of the Board of Administrators (BOA) governing the KMC said on Tuesday.
According to a KMC official, though the civic body has entrusted a private agency for collection of bio-medical waste from households, where Covid-positive patients are generating such wastes, the agency workers are struggling since a lot of such households are mixing general kitchen wastes with bio-medical wastes.
According to norms, the private agency will collect such wastes from such bins and transport the same outside the city limits.
According to sources in the KMC health department, the civic body will install 7,000 such bins in phases.
