West Bengal records highest single-day spike, active cases in Kolkata cross 2000 mark – Times Now

Kolkata: With ‘unlock’ phase 2 imposed, West Bengal records its highest single-day spike of fresh Covid-19 cases in the state. As per the data released by the West Bengal Health Department, 669 new cases of Covid were reported till 9 AM on July 3rd. Among the new cases, Kolkata alone has reported 182 new cases in the last 24 hours and now has crossed the 2000 mark with 2,078 active cases. The number of cases in North 24 Parganas has also increased by 134 new cases being reported while Howrah district reported 102 new Covid-19 cases in a day.

11,053 samples were tested on 3rd July which could perhaps be one of the reasons for the rise in the number of cases in West Bengal. Till date, 13,571 patients have been discharged from across the state, with 534 released in the last 24 hours. The discharge rate now stands at 66.23% Jhargram District in West Bengal has zero active cases now with a total of 19 who had tested positive being cured. Purulia, Coochbehar, Alipurduar, Kalimpong too have single-digit active cases currently.

In the last 24 hours, West Bengal has recorded its highest single-day death toll as well, a total of 18 have succumbed to Covid as per the health department bulletin. A total of 717 deaths have been reported in the state till date. In a single day, Kolkata recorded eight deaths while Howrah and North 24 Parganas recorded three deaths each, Two Covid deaths were reported in South 24 Parganas and one in Hoogly district.
