Apology for publishing a wrong photo – Times of India

Kolkata News

KOLKATA: The picture we carried as part of an infographic with the report headlined “ Man kills estranged wife in B’luru, mom-in-law in Kol, shoots self” in Tuesday’s edition was of a couple with the same names but who are alive and happily married. We are truly and terribly sorry for this mistake. The photo was shared by the same source with a number of papers, which also carried it.
The moment we discovered our mistake, we removed the picture from our website with our sincere apologies right at the top of the news report; we also took it off our epaper. And we apologized on Facebook and Twitter.
We apologise again to the couple in the picture and wish them a long and joyous life together. We take every precaution before we publish anything, and that includes pictures. But clearly it was not airtight, and we are revisiting our protocol, including re-verifying pictures shared by official sources.
