West Bengal: After MHA’s complaint, cops seal busy Kolkata road – India Today

Kolkata News

City police have sealed a major Kolkata road after the central ministry of home affairs complained of lockdown violations in West Bengal in a letter to the state government.

Dated April 10, the letter mentions locations in Kolkata such as Rajabazar, Narkel Danga, Topsia, Gardenreach and Maniktala.

The police have now barricaded the Narkel Danga Main Road, starting from the busy Rajabazar crossing in central Kolkata.

A large force is deployed at the junction around the clock.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Friday that armed police would be deployed in sensitive areas to ensure strict adherence to lockdown rules.

West Bengal has reported 287 coronavirus cases, according to central government data. Ten people have died and 55 have recovered.

Active cases across India have crossed 11,900. The national death toll is 480.
