Kolkata: Man held for selling gutkha near hospital – Times of India

KOLKATA: Hours before the Centre banned spitting on roads, Anandapur police arrested a 51-year-old man for selling gutkha. The accused, Sadhan Mondal, is a resident of Rajdanga in Kasba area.
“He opened the shop for non-essential items near Ruby Hospital during the lockdown. Besides, he did not deter his customers from spitting on the road near the shop. We booked him under the IPC Section 188 and we are planning to file more specific charges against him,” said a police officer.
The FIR lodged by sergeant Soumit Sen stated that such an act also amounts to spreading the Covid-19,a global pandemic. Cops said that they are mulling implementation of the West Bengal Prevention of Spitting in Public Place Act to take action against the offenders in such cases for protection of people from the spread of novel Coronavirus.
