Thief with a limp caught on CCTV camera in Calcutta – Telegraph India

A thief’s limp gave him away as he was spotted by cops in CCTV footage.

A part of the booty was found stuffed inside a soft toy at the suspect’s home, police said.

Devamun Shah, a resident of the Calcutta Port Trust colony, had reported the theft of a trunk from his home on Sunday night. The truck contained Rs 3,000, a mobile phone and some gold and silver ornaments, the complainant told police.

“CCTV footage analysis showed a man walking with a trunk. He was wearing a dark hood that hid his face. There was no way to identify him by his face,” an officer of Taratala police station station .

A thorough scan of footage of all CCTV cameras in the area revealed that the man walked with a limp.

Armed with this information, the police tapped their sources to track down the accused and identified him as Mona Turiya alias Langra.

Turiya was arrested from his home on Monday and the trunk, along with a part of the stolen cash, the mobile phone and the silver and gold jewellery were recovered, the police said.

The accused was produced in court on Monday afternoon and remanded in judicial custody till March 16.
