KOLKATA: Three men on a bike stalked a 24-year-old morning walker from her home and snatched her mobile phone as she was walking past Ricthie Road in the heart of up scale south Kolkata neighbourhood on Monday morning.
Papiya Naskar, a resident of Hazra Road, said she was wary of someone following her as she was taking a walk around 4.45am on Monday before the bikers knocked her from behind and another person snatched the cellphone and decamped towards Elgin Road.
Officers of Ballygunge Police station have registered a case of snatching and have started a probe. None, however, has been arrested till late on Tuesday.
The woman said she could not note down the registration number but has partially remembers one of the youths on the bike. She said, even before she could react, the three miscreants had fled the spot on a bike. Since nobody was on the road at that hour, she did not receive any help.
“I take the same road every morning for a walk and such a thing has never happened to anyone in the neighbourhood,” recounted Naskar. When she realised there was no point in chasing them on foot, she asked a cab to stop and chased them.
The chase continued to run for a while before she could again spot the three youths at a spot near Minto Park. When Naskar got down to chase the youths, the driver asked her not to go. “I couldn’t even see the number plate of the bike and I had to chase them down. I paid the fare and started going towards the youths. One of them, however, noticed me and again fled the spot,” she said.
Later, she lodged a complaint with the help of other morning walker. Naskar suffered some injuries on her legs and arm as she slipped and fell while giving the thieves a chase.
