Woman falls while boarding a bus in Calcutta – Telegraph India

A 65-year-old woman fell while boarding a bus near the Howrah bridge flower market on Monday. Sumita Devi Kiradoo, a resident of Posta, was taken to a nursing home with leg injuries, police said. She could not tell the police the registration number of the bus.

Cough syrup arrest

Over 2,500 Phensedyl bottles, valued at more than Rs 2.5lakh, that were allegedly being smuggled into Bangladesh, were seized by Border Security Force personnel along the India-Bangladesh border’s South Bengal Frontier on Monday. A man who was allegedly trying to smuggle the cough syrup, which contains narcotic Codeine Phosphate, was detained and handed over to police.

1 arrested in gold haul

A man was arrested on Monday with two gold bars valued at nearly Rs 30 lakh at the India-Bangladesh border by the BSF. A BSF team grew suspicious of the man when he tried to swerve his motorcycle round a checkpost, an officer said. The team found the gold bars hidden in the toolbox. He apparently intended to smuggle the gold into Bangladesh.

Found hanging

A 24-year-old woman was found hanging from the ceiling of her single-room tenement early on Monday. Neighbours alerted cops when they saw Saraswati Kanjilal hanging. She was declared dead at MR Bangur Hospital.

Street lights

New street lights will be fixed along New Town’s Street No. 666 in front of Moonbeam housing complex near the Ankankha More crossing, a New Town Kolkata Development Authority official said. The NKDA will carry out the work. Tenders have been floated, the official said.

Divider repair

The New Town Kolkata Development Authority will repair the divider on the stretch of road between Aliah University and Amity University in New Town, a New Town Kolkata Development Authority official said. Tenders have been floated. The repairs are expected to start in the next couple of months, the official said.

Fencing

Iron grille fences will be put up around the roundabout at the Akankha crossing and around the gates of the subway complex in New Town’s Action Area III.
