Calcutta police submits chargesheet in Garcha murder case – Telegraph India

Calcutta police on Saturday submitted the chargesheet in the death of a 65-year-old woman. She had been found dead in her Garcha house on December 12. The 300-page document charged the woman’s daughter-in-law and her 22-year-old male friend with murder, robbery, common intention and criminal conspiracy. Another chargesheet has been submitted before the juvenile justice board against the woman’s granddaughter. The chargesheet has mentioned more than 60 witnesses.

Train to Howrah

A daytime train that will connect Radhikapur — a terminal station close to the India-Bangladesh border in North Dinajpur — to Howrah was flagged off on Saturday. The Radhikapur-Howrah Express will leave the station in North Dinajpur at 11.30am and reach Howrah at 11pm. The train from Howrah will depart at 8.35am and reach Radhikapur at 7.40pm.

Girl missing

Police have started a search for a 17-year-old Higher Secondary examinee who has been reported missing since February 12 from Chhoto Jagulia in Duttapukur. Her family has said she did not return from tuition classes.

Giraffe calf survives

A female calf (in picture, above) was born to a giraffe at Alipore Zoo in the early hours of Tuesday has survived a temporary abandonment by the mother. Trina delivered a female calf around 3.30am on Tuesday. But the 15-year-old, already mother of four, refused to feed the baby, said zoo officials. The baby tried snuggling up to the mother a couple of times but was thwarted. By 3pm on Tuesday, the baby was not able to stand.

Body found

Police recovered the partly-burnt body of Seikh Abdul Jaid, 31, from an apartment at Kazipara in Howrah’s Shibpur on Saturday. The police took him to Howrah State General Hospital where he was declared dead.

Theft arrest

A man was arrested on Saturday for stealing valuables from the house of an advocate, Ashok Majumdar, on Moore Avenue in the Regent Park area, police said.

Trader robbed

A city-based trader has alleged that he had been robbed of Rs13 lakh by men posing as enforcement directorate officers last Thursday. One person has been arrested.

Spine workshop

A Spine Deformity Conference and a Live Spine Deformity Surgical Workshop was inaugurated at SSKM Hospital on Saturday. The conference and the workshop will continue till Friday, but there will be no event on Sunday.

The conference and the workshop are being organised by the Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research (IPGMER) and SSKM Hospital, along with Operation Straight Spine Trust.
